HAUNT ME, RECITE IT AGAIN: Melissa Ramos

HAUNT ME, RECITE IT AGAIN
MELISSA RAMOS / VIDEO INSTALLATION
FEBRUARY 4 (FRIDAY), 2011 6PM - 11PM

Current Green Papaya resident-artist Melissa Ramos’ research project in the Philippines manifested into a film montage based on “memory” and how the memory of people and past events haunt our lives and shape the space around us. Taking upon a journey of images, which she has composed, to link between semantic self-consciousness and visual experience. The film encourages the sensation of feeling and rejects the apparent need to constantly label as an attempt for a better understanding, to relate it to something rather unextraordinarily familiar as a means to try and control it. In overwhelming moments we turn often to sound when words seem to leave our feelings unjust.

Melissa Ramos is a filmmaker, photographer, performer and video artist. She is known mainly for complex multi-narratives that reveal the fragile inner life of her protagonists, as well as the tenuous line separating fantasy from reality. She sets up situations that are marked emotionally and sensitive in some specific way. Extracting representational systems that hierarchically shape our lives.
