Never mind the prolific phenomena of Khavn de la Cruz. Poster child of the creative, almost lowly, environ of the independent scene way back OraCafe. Obscure we dare not say. For he has persisted instead of receding into the wallpaper of forgotten history. A practice that has reverberated into the realms of cinema, video, music, literature and performance way beyond familiar national borders. His beaten passport – witness to the contrasting landscapes captured in celluloid but also echoing in the brutal, unapologetic and adolescent teenager love of his music and poetry. To pin down Khavn de la Cruz is like desperately running after a chicken out of the cage. Not impossible but bordering on futility. The persona is the work. While he has given up on maintaining his blonde streak of hair, covering half of his face, he has moved on to growing his own natural salt and pepper locks. Maybe an unconscious attempt to take on bolder steps of his genius. One that has kept up with stubborn resilience in the face of rosy future telling of youth.
In yet another new venture that Khavn has imposed upon himself, Tonight I Will Love You Forever exposes the creative process that is his is self. Exploding outside of his films into multiple frames outside the imaginary landscape of cinema, instead playfully tackling the ubiquitous conventional white-cube space. From tube to the cube, motion temporarily halts into un/recognizable frames.
