WEDNESDAYS i'm-in-love (w.i.l)
videos by GABRIELLE BATES; KOK SIEW WAI; OTTO RAMSTAD+OLIVE BIERINGA
conversations LENA COBANGBANG+MM YU; DONNA MIRANDA+JAY CRUZ plus more
Green Papaya's w.i.l OPEN PLATFORM seeks to create a discursive space for the presentation, critical play and playful interaction for artists of all disciplines through a weekly one-night stand gathering of live, loud, rowdy and poignant actions in and around art.
Visiting Australian artist Gabrielle Bates, on a much needed break from her Malaysian residency shows her video experiments with Boogie Fever and Little Prayer. Also screening for the evening are Malaysian Kok Siew-Wai's In the Breadth of Time, where she uses video to create sound textures and volume, added the tactile sensation of her eerie but soothing voice sketches; and Otto Ramstad and Olive Bieringa's (fellows met at Impulstanz 2005) dance video The Room, a product of their residency in old military base in the US.
Meanwhile, conversations between artists continue to take a more visible presence onstage as Lena and MM talk about personal life, art-making process and plugings. Donna Miranda interviews Jay Cruz, continuing talks about contemporary practice in Philippine dance scene.
Why wait for Fridays? Take your chance, bequeath restraint and delayed gratifications in favor of bittersweet promises of midweek hangovers. While old dogs cannot learn new tunes, we can go and keep on banging. Melodrama is the intolerable prison of unrequited fantasies. So why not start all over again? Cynics meet the incurable romantics. Jump in, bring your one-liners, secret playlists, unpublished material, works-in-progress, disposable indentities, undying love, evil plans and drink it straight up for Green Papaya’s weekly Wednesdays i’m-n-love open platform.
So send in your video, soundbytes, wearables, performance, installation, drawings and what-nots for this one-night stand gathering. Proposals must be submitted one week before each wednesday, send them thru info@greenpapaya.org or holler up 09266635606 .
